Why Your Website Needs A Database? by terranet

Why put a database on your website? If there is a big amount of content on your website, than the website structure should have the Database System where all contents can be stored and organized.

The database gathers a lot of data generated on the website. The database is maintained through Database Management System (DBMS) that allows storing, entering, organizing, manipulating, retrieving and selecting data in a database. Database Management System helps to accurately present information to your website users.

In this article, we briefly describe some types of database for you to get a clearer understanding of database importance for a website.

Operational Database. Operational Database consists of detailed real-time data about all operations on a website. In operational databases the data can be changed, deleted and modified. For example, the operational database may include customer databases that record contact, credit or purchase info; and personnel databases that store information about employees.

Analytic Database. Analytic database is a static database which records and archives data (for example, sales/products information, publications/articles, etc) used for future analysis.

Distributed Database. Distributed database can include segments of operational and common user databases. Since the database is distributed, different users can access it without interfering with one another.

End-user Database. End-user database stores data developed by individual end-users. Some examples of end-user databases are collections of documents in spreadsheets, downloaded files, etc.

External Database. External database stores data for use across multiple organizations.

Every website that contains large amounts of data (images, photos, products, bibliographic info, statistical data, etc) should have a reliable and functional database management system in its structure.

The database of your website is just like your file storage cabinet.
